Eligibility of Applicants

  1. Applicants for an undergraduate scholarship must be intending to undertake full time study in the following year in a program in Home Economics or equivalent which conforms with the criteria for an 'eligible program' as determined by the Managing Trustees.
  2. Applicants for a postgraduate scholarship will normally have an undergraduate award in an eligible program in Home Economics or equivalent and must be intending to undertake full time or part time study in the following year in a postgraduate program deemed eligible by the Managing Trustees.
  3. Applicants are required to make a statement of professional goals and must demonstrate clear intentions to work in the field of Home Economics and to make a professional contribution to the field.
  4. Because the intention in establishing the O’Malley Trust was for the improvement of home life in Australia, King O'Malley's Will states that scholarships cannot be granted to students intending to prepare for careers in commercial trading (manufacturing and retailing), catering or entertainment fields. Teaching and community services are included in the eligible fields.
  5. Citizens of other countries, living in Australia, are required to provide evidence of their intention to remain permanent residents in Australia. Scholars studying overseas are required to agree to return to Australia within 6 months of completing their program of study.
  6. Applicants apply for awards in the State or Territory in which they reside, however the program need not be in the same State or Territory.
  7. Successful Applicants must sign an Agreement for Scholarship Form which provides for the rights and responsibilities of the O’Malley Trust and the Scholarship holder.
